Gaurav Sareen – Founder and Managing Partner

Gaurav is the Founder and Managing Director of Genesis Advisory, bringing nearly two decades of experience across tax, strategic advisory, and investment facilitation as the Lead Partner for Deloitte in Timor-Leste. A qualified lawyer and tax advisor, Gaurav works at the intersection of public policy, private enterprise, and economic development—both in Timor-Leste and Australia.

His leadership style is values-driven, empathetic, and results-oriented—underpinned by a strong belief in building high-performing teams and delivering long-term impact. Gaurav’s deep understanding of economic, financial, political, and community dynamics makes him a trusted advisor to clients navigating complex business issues and challenges across policy, investment, and delivery.

He has led major advisory and compliance engagements for clients including the Government of Timor-Leste, ConocoPhillips, Woodside, SundaGas, Schlumberger, Starlink, Clough Wood, Halliburton, Caltech, BNCTL, ANZ Bank, Heineken, Viettel, Telemor, and Jape Group. His work spans tax and accounting, private sector strategy, policy reform, funding applications, infrastructure planning, and socio-economic analysis.

Gaurav holds degrees in Law and Business Administration from Macquarie University and is a member of both the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia. He also serves on several boards and advisory committees, including as Chairperson of BETTER (Building East Timor Through Education & Resources)—a not-for-profit focused on advancing opportunity through education.
